Student Success
Student Success offers a comprehensive range of programs and services to students, including accessibility services; developmental, holistic, and intrusive advising; supplemental instruction and workshops; individualized tutoring; career development; graduate school/post-graduation preparation; internship opportunities; job placement; and multicultural/diversity programs and services. Working closely with other areas specifically Academic Affairs, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, University Technology Services, and Enrollment Services, Student Success is focused on improving student persistence and completion by identifying, addressing, and resolving system level issues attributed to creating barriers to our students’ successes.
Accessibility Services assists students with specific learning needs in achieving access to higher education and promotes their ongoing personal and educational success, as well as to increase the awareness and responsiveness of the campus community to students with disabilities.
First Year Experience (FYE) & New Student Orientation (NSO) assists first year and new students with a positive transition to university life through a variety of programs and events designed to guide the students on a path toward academic and personal success by educating and connecting them with university offices and resources.
Multicultural and International Student Services assists, nurtures, and supports the international and study abroad students and their peer communities through planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services that facilitate intellectual, interpersonal, and spiritual development. Multicultural and International Student Services stays up-to-date all international regulations so as to support and assist the university in achieving its goal to be a university of international consequence.
Student Learning assists student with their academic progress by providing tutoring and academic support services to students through supplemental instruction, workshops, and one-on-one sessions. The CAVE (Center for Academic Vision & Excellence) is dedicated to providing appropriate instructional support to assist students in fulfilling their academic potential and achieving their goals.
Student Success Coaches assists students with all aspects of their collegiate experience by providing developmental, holistic, and intrusive advising; proactively working with students to provide financial guidance; and providing support and encouragement by connecting students with other university programs and services.

Accessibility Services assists students with specific learning needs in achieving access to higher education and promotes their ongoing personal and educational success, as well as to increase the awareness and responsiveness of the campus community to students with disabilities.
- Works with university departments to coordinate reasonable and appropriate accommodations for any student on the university campus or at the centers who provides recent documentation of his or her disability as defined under the ADA Amendments Act or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Plan.
- Types of disabilities that might require services may include: visually impaired, motor impaired, learning disabled, communication disorder, health impaired, attention deficit disorder, psychological disorder, etc.
- Services and accommodations provided may include: extended time for tests, separate/ quiet testing environment, note taking assistance, enlarged written materials, taped lectures, books on tape, preferential seating, housing accommodations (for campus resident students only), medical exit/ reentry, etc.

- Creates essential connections to students and key areas essential for student success with: Faculty Advisors, Student Success Coaches, SLU 101 Instructors, Peer Mentors, Orientation Leaders, etc.
- Works closely with Academic Affairs to design the SLU 101 First Year Experience course which introduces students to the history and culture of SLU, to the various departments, resources and services available, and fosters the development of decision making using critical thinking skills and core values.
- Works closely with Admissions and Academic Affairs to design the Program for the Advancement of Learning (PAL) program, a one week intensive program beginning one week prior to the fall term, designed to ease the transition from high school to college, and to provide academic support and skills training for students who need additional help in preparing for college success.
- Offers a week-long NSO program in the Fall, weekend-long in the Spring, designed to connect students to University resources and each other.
- Provides year-long programs and activities to first year students to assist with first-to-second year persistence.

- Processes all international students’ (including CE students) government required paperwork such as I-20s, student visas, etc.
- Provides multi-cultural programs and events (signature weeks) for the university campus community.
- Develops trainings and support to designated school officials (DSO) at other university locations.
- Offers workshops, programs, and support to international students specifically on dealing with homesickness, cultural differences, and overall student success.

- Offers assistance with basic study skills, time management, note taking, reading efficiently, stress reduction, taking exams, and organizing materials for study.
- Provides supplemental instruction (SI): a series of weekly review sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. SI review sessions are available to all enrolled students who want to improve their understanding of course materials and their grades.
- Develops workshops with course content as determined by the student population’s needs.
- Provides virtual resources to assist students with writing and study skills.
- Works closely with faculty to identify qualified student leaders to be trained and certified as student tutors.
Student Success Coaches assists students with all aspects of their collegiate experience by providing developmental, holistic, and intrusive advising; proactively working with students to provide financial guidance; and providing support and encouragement by connecting students with other university programs and services.
- Address and provides support for the student’s holistic university experience, academic and non-academic.
- Provides personalized interventions for all students, specifically students at risk of not learning, persisting, and/or graduating.
- Works closely with Faculty Advisors and School Coordinators to assist students with creating four year academic plans, registering for classes, and offering academic program advice.
- Works closely with Financial Aid and Student Accounts to provide financial guidance to students in order to increase financial literacy.
