Mission: In support of the Saint Leo University mission statement and Core Values, the mission of the Parent & Family Relations program, in collaboration with Student Affairs, engages family members as partners in the educational journey of their student. Resources, events and ongoing communication will encourage parents and family members to be involved in the university community, assist their student, and develop long lasting relationships with Saint Leo University. These initiatives support student learning by:
Educating parents/family members on the wide variety of opportunities and resources available to students at Saint Leo University.
Empowering parents/family members to support their maturing students in developmentally appropriate ways.
Engaging parents/family members in campus life during milestone moments (e.g., orientation, and commencement) and throughout the academic year (e.g., Summer Send offs, Fall Family Festival)
Communicating with parents/family members about on-campus events and making campus resources accessible to parents/family members.
Goals: Parents/family members understand their important role as role models and supporters. They empower their students to take personal responsibility for their curricular and co-curricular aspects of their lives. They provide support in the form of listening whenever possible.
Parents/family members maintain open communication with their students about difficult life decisions and promote positive choices regarding alcohol/drugs, civility, coping with stress and conflict, and personal relationships.
Parents/family members understand the variety of resources available to students at Saint Leo University and empower their students to use these resources to problem solve and enhance the quality of their lives.
Parents/family members take opportunities to engage with Saint Leo University, share their Saint Leo University experiences and serve as ambassadors for the university.
