Parent’s Blog Dr. Edward Dadez, Vice President of Student Affairs & Campus Operations (September 4, 2017)
Throughout the year, I will be writing some blogs to provide you with some of my thoughts as the Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Operations, but as importantly as a parent of two graduates of Saint Leo University. I hope that you find them helpful as you go through your own transition as a parent of a college student.
At the recent New Student Orientation Ceremony, I welcomed the Class of 2021 and our transfer students who are joining the Classes of 2020 and 2019. I also shared the following thoughts with our new students.
The Student Affairs and Campus Operations staff are here to assist each of you outside of the classroom and to support you inside of the classroom. The diversity and excellence of our students continue to strengthen our University as we provide each of you with years of learning about yourself and the world around you; growing in independence and new responsibilities; and mostly becoming. It is finding out who you are and who you want to become.
Our Student Affairs and Campus Operations mission is to assist, nurture, and support each of you and our campus communities in which you will live to facilitate your intellectual, interpersonal, and spiritual development. We are strongly committed to your total development – mind, body, and spirit.
Our vision is the creation of a collaborative community which enables you to experience a seamless learning experience which will guide you successfully now and through the rest of your life. We will work toward accomplishing our vision by encouraging each of you to be actively involved while you are here at Saint Leo University.
Involvement in Student Government Union, academic organizations & clubs, Campus Activities Board, community service, athletics, University Ministry, intramurals, fraternities, sororities and last but not least, active involvement in your academic major. The main reason you are here at Saint Leo.
I challenge each of you to:
commit to your own personal growth and development;
be active members of our campus community;
strive for excellence;
be responsible stewards of yours and our resources;
be respectful of each other; and
live with integrity
If all of us live these institutional core values with passion, Saint Leo University will continue to be the special place that it is. And all of us, each one of us, will be the better for it.
Much success and happiness in the coming years. Please utilize your Student Success Coach to be successful this year. All of us are here to assist each and every one of you.
Have a great year and strive to love the person you will become here!
